Today I discovered Cinegram

While browsing the App Store today I discovered Cinegram. I think this is my new favourite app, rather than trying to talk about it, I will let the results speak for themselves.

Brain Farts

Names are good. Everything needs a name.

Recently more than ever I’ve noticed my brain doing something, well, out of the ordinary. I keep getting these almost disembodied thoughts, ideas if you will. Now you’re probably thinking “that’s pretty normal”, but wait, there’s a problem - these ideas are properly mental.

I’ve dubbed these ideas “brain farts”.

Now for the most part it’s not really an issue, as thankfully another (much more sane) part of my brain quickly shoots these barts (that’s short for brain farts) down and stops me from being even more of a complete twat than usual. But every now and then one of them slips through the net.

So I guess the real purpose of this blog is just to let you know that I’m a little broken and to excuse one in ten things that I say, tweet or do.

Just for fun, here’s a few recent brain farts:

  • Attend a job interview in blackface in the hope of the race card increasing my chances of getting said job
  • Rather than imitate Steve Hogarty’s spending Twitter feed, twist it and create a Twitter feed documenting the money I earn
  • Book a flight to the first country I point at on a picture of the world map for a ‘life experience’
  • Saying “love you” instead of “goodbye” to an editor on the phone

A book wot I am writing

So I’ve started work on what I am calling my first book, it’s not a novel by any means - a novella if you must. At present I’ve written about 10,000 words (most of which will probably not make it). It currently has no title and I’ve not quite figured out yet how to describe it - it does exist though, honest.

I do know two things though, it’ll be available where ever possible online and it will be completely FREE. Why? Because it’s my first ‘thing’ and as a result it will probably be shit.

The city never sleeps, at least that’s what they say…

Commute, work, sleep. Finding love was never going to be easy.

Two days of absence (27 & 28 of 366)

Hello!

Just dropping in with a short post to apologise for my absence, I’ve been incredibly busy what with doing the whole YouTube thing and generally doing other work and I’m struggling to stay inspired with this daily deadline set upon myself. I’m undecided as yet with regard to whether I’ll try and continue my daily blogging but we’ll see.

On the bright side, there’s a new video up!

Paris, Photography and Pragmatics (23 of 366)

It’s my birthday next month. I’m going to Paris next month. One of my best friends Dustin is coming to London next month.

I love travelling, it’s right up there with masturbating and video games. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about travelling, I love being reminded just how small and insignificant I am and there’s no better way to do that than visiting a plethora of other countries where there’s a million other people who are living their own blissful lives unbeknown to your existence.

Next month I’ll be visiting Paris, it’s not the first time I’ve been to Paris and certainly not France but I’m excited about it none the less. Paris is a beautiful city with so much to offer and, albeit a short one, my stay there is certainly something I am looking forward to.

Regrettably I’ve fallen out of taking photographs recently which is something I am aiming to amend as soon as possible as taking photos is my favourite way of keeping track of my life. I’m also looking to write and record a few short ‘comedy’ YouTube videos in the coming weeks so look out for that.

I’ll try and do something more fun tomorrow, promise.

The Darkness II (and why it is brilliant) (22 of 366)

It’s not the best time of year for video game releases but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few gems that you really shouldn’t let pass you by. One of these gems takes the shape of the organ-devouring horror game The Darkness II.

The Darkness II is, unsurprisingly, the sequel to 2007’s The Darkness. The game follows protagonist Jackie Estacado, a newly made Don of the Franchetti family. It’s been two years since the events of the first game and Jackie has since managed to contain his powers but now The Darkness inside of him wants out.

The game’s plot is interesting enough and will maintain to keep your attention but the real beauty of the game is the complexity found within the combat, you’re given four limbs, each of which you have full control over, a mechanic the developers refer to as ‘quad wielding’. However, despite sounding overly complex, it’s actually incredibly easy and fun to use. A pistol in each arm, a car door in your right Darkness arm while your left devours some poor victim’s heart? No problem.

And lest we forget that it is incredibly fun to get to be the monster sometimes, it’s not often enough game’s allow us to play the role of an anti-hero and as a result, it’s always so god-damn satisfying when we do.

Finally, it’s bloody gorgeous. The game has perfectly evoked the comic book style from which it originates with stunning cel-shaded visuals that only further compliment the gore-fest that is The Darkness II.

But don’t take my word for it, there’s a game demo available right now on Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network. Although the demo is a little sketchy as it plays through plot moments out of order, you’ll still be able to get to a taste as to just why I am excited for The Darkness II next month.

The Sunday Mirror (21 of 366)

It’s Sunday tomorrow. Do you know what that means? No, I don’t care about your fry-up. It means that there will be a new issue of The Sunday Mirror in all good newsagents (and even some bad ones).

Now why does that affect you? Well only because I write the games bit each week.

Okay, so this post serves purely for self-promotion.

Deal with it.

Much love,

Mike

What To Watch Tonight (20 of 366)

It’s always tough trying to figure out what to watch on a Friday night so here’s my suggestion for you: Submarine.

Richard Ayoade’s Submarine is simply beautiful. Based on the novel of the same name, the film was quick to evoke so much of my own school experience as it documents the life and trials of Oliver Tate. While working through his own family issues and trying to ‘get the girl’, Submarine submerges (excuse the pun) you into the eccentric inner workings of his idiosyncratic world.

Submarine is available for instant streaming on the LOVEFiLM app right now on your Xbox 360!

Why I’m Not Excited About Resident Evil 6 (yet) (19 of 366)

So in case you somehow missed the news, or just don’t care, Resident Evil 6 was confirmed by Capcom today. They’ve provided a few scarce details and a trailer (link), which quite frankly reveals a little more than I’d have liked, but that’s another rant for another day.

A lot of people seem to be confused as to why I’m not necessarily that excited about the news so I figured I’d clear it up.

I’m a huge fan of the Resident Evil series, in fact, I’ll quite happily list both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 as two of my favourite games of all-time, in my opinion, those games were pretty much perfect.

Roll on March 2010 and Resident Evil 5 hits the shelves, of course, I dash out and buy the game despite knowing in my gut that something wasn’t right - after all, I’d arranged with my friend, Oli, to play the game co-operatively. As expected, the game was completely out of sync with the rest of the series; narrow, dark and dank corridors had been replaced with the brightly lit burning sands of Africa, an area littered in motorbike-riding zombies. And lest we forget the incredibly irritating female protagonist following me around everywhere, often opting to hinder rather than help my progress. I found she had no quarrel with standing in front of a door I needed to pass through, much like a spouse that had just been informed you were ‘off to the pub’ with your mates.

The game was a shambles, sure, it was a competent third person action game but it was by no means a Resident Evil game. The ever increasing tension of the past was merely a distant memory, replaced only by a hulking Chris Redfield, a meaty hero with arms that resemble tree trunks. Chris’ character includes the occasional grunt along with lots of punching and kicking (roundhouse to be specific), his character certainly takes an interesting turn towards the end of the game where he is found beating the shit out of a boulder.

Okay, so perhaps I’m being cynical. Sure, Resident Evil 6 could be good, but it’s going to have to win me back before it gets my vote.

SOPA-PIPA (18 of 366)

There’s nothing I can say about SOPA-PIPA that hasn’t already been said so instead I’ll just embed this video explaining exactly why you should be opposing it.
